Call for Nominations: Peace & Dialog Award PDF Print E-mail

Niagara Foundation-Michigan starts a new tradition in Michigan by giving Annual Peace & Dialog Awards to recognize individuals and organizations who contributed their time, energy, and leadership to the cause of dialog, peace, education, community service, tolerance and mutual understanding in Michigan.

 

The award will be presented at the Annual Dialog & Friendship Dinner on September 17, 2009 at the Eagle Eye Golf Club in East Lansing, MI.

Lansing's Diversity Day PDF Print E-mail

Niagara Foundation-Michigan had an exhibit table at Lansing's 4th Annual Diversity Day on April 18, 2009 at Don Johnson Field House at Eastern High School. We were able to share our activities with the community. Diversity Day 2009 offered a great entertainment lineup, interesting and lively community exhibit tables, delicious food and hands-on activities for youth.

 

Mayor Virg Bernero stopped by our exhibit to greet our volunteers and he thanked for their participation.

Luncheon at the State Capitol PDF Print E-mail
The first Annual Luncheon at Michigan State Capitol took place on Feb. 10th. The keynote speaker was Dr. Jill Carroll from Rice University, who is a well-known academic, a radio host and an author. The theme of her speech was “Dialogue of Civilizations.” In her speech, Dr. Carroll indicated that the clash of civilizations is not our destiny if we all work hard enough to change the course of the current conflicts. She also applauded the dialogue and educational activities of the world-wide Gulen Movement.

Interfaith Forum: Hospitality in Abrahamic Traditions PDF Print E-mail

The first Interfaith Forum is held on March 15, 2009 at the Haslett Community Church. The theme of the forum was "Hospitality in Abrahamic Traditions". Yasir Bilgin, Niagara Foundation-Michigan's Executive Director,  David Wiener, member of Kehillat Israel, and Rev. Kurt Kirchoff, pastor of Haslett Community Church were the panelists for this interfaith forum.  Panelists talked about how hospitality is such a great part of each of the Muslim, Jewish and Christian faiths.  Each panelist made a presentation and then there was a time for questions and answers.

Noah's Pudding Sharing at St.Paul's Episcopal Church PDF Print E-mail

Observing a Middle Eastern tradition that celebrates the landing of Noah’s Ark, we organize a series of events that consist of preparation, distribution and promotion of a dessert called Noah’s Pudding.

Most recently, our volunteers were the guests of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Jan. 11, 2009.  After a brief speech by Mr. Yasir Bilgin, the Director of Niagara Foundation-Michigan, the puddings were served.
